The Currency of Comparison

There’s something deeply ironic about comparison.
What if I told you the very woman you’re comparing and measuring yourself against is quite possibly doing the exact same thing? Wishing she had your skin, your hair, your confidence, your swag.
You’re admiring the way her dress fits, how slim she is—while on the flip side, she’s wishing she carried more body weight like you, your hips, your curves.
Imagine for a moment standing in front of a reflective mirror, looking at each other, but with the ability to see one another’s thoughts. She could see yours, and you could see hers—each through your own individual eyes.
Would you feel silly?
Surprised?
Validated?
Sis...
Imagine the person you envy actually admires your strength.
Your resilience.
Your ability to keep going.
Your light.
She literally thinks you’re one of the most beautiful women she’s ever seen.
And while you’re busy discounting and judging yourself, she’s wondering how you make it all look so effortless- in complete awe of you...
This is the part of the conversation where we have to turn the spotlight back onto self-love.
Because it sits at the core.
It is foundational.
The negative self-talk is directly tied to the false narratives that stay on replay in our minds. The unkind words we whisper to ourselves. The damaging things that come out of our own mouths. I have to catch myself more often than I would like to admit.
I understand now why my mom spent so much time teaching me about avoiding jealousy and being careful not to covet what someone else has.
She taught me how important it is to be grateful for what you have and to honor the way God made us—all so uniquely.
That’s why we’re called individuals.
If we all looked the same, had the same talents, shared the same interests... can you imagine how bland this world would be?
That’s the thing about comparison—
It’s a currency that holds absolutely no value when used this way.
Comparison is a thief of joy.
It robs us of gratitude.
It devalues our uniqueness.
It convinces us that who we are is somehow not enough and that what someone else has must be better.
But what if we stopped chasing reflections of other people’s lives and started honoring our own?
What if instead of coveting what someone else carries, we learned to appreciate what we already possess?
Because the hard facts are this:
There will always be someone with something you don’t have.
But there will also always be someone praying for the strength, grace, wisdom, or courage that you carry so naturally.
Sis...
The goal should never be to become her or to be like her.
Instead, the focus needs to shift toward fully becoming you.
And maybe—just maybe—if you saw what they see...
You’d stop spending so much effort trying to be like someone else.
Just be you.
Love yourself.
Because you’re pretty darn amazing, Sis.
None of us are perfect. And in my humble opinion, striving for perfection is a fool’s game.
You’ll lose.
You’ll leave defeated.
And disappointed every single time.
There isn’t a currency in existence valuable enough to come close to what you’re worth.
You’re priceless, Sis.
Remember this.... You're next to NONE!
And...
Comparison....
Simply put is just plain Counterfeit. Phony as a $3 bill...

Love yourself Sis! We already do.

I love this article, as comparison is indeed the thief of “all” joy. Unfortunately, we all have done it and it simply robs us of who God created us to be.
We must learn to extend grace to ourselves because we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Keep up the great work, Aimee!
