THE JOURNEY
Before there was a movement, there was a breaking point.
More than three decades ago, Aimee Egesa’s body said what she had not yet found the courage to speak. The stress. The silence. The weight of being everything for everyone—while quietly carrying far too much—showed up in a way she could no longer ignore. She lost her hair. Not as a moment of vanity—but as a moment of truth.
A truth that would take years to fully understand. Because Aimee had mastered what so many women are taught to do—be strong, show up, hold it together, deliver without much regard for what that might cost. And while the people closest to her saw strength, she was navigating some of the most challenging years of her life. Until she made a decision that would change everything, she chose to stop performing strength and start confronting the truth. That decision became the foundation for her healing and ultimately, her freedom.
Today, Aimee is the Founder of Check on Your Strong Friend, Sis - a bold and necessary movement redefining what it means to be strong. Through her voice, her lived experience, and her unwavering commitment to honesty, she is creating space for women to step out of survival mode and into something deeper: support, self-awareness, and restoration.
Her upcoming book, The Weight She Carries - A Personal Reflection on Survival, Healing, and Restoration, is a candid reflection of pain, healing, and the choices that lead to transformation. It is both a mirror and an invitation—challenging women to confront what they’ve normalized, take accountability for what they’ve carried, and discover the freedom that exists on the other side of courage. Because this work isn’t about rejecting strength—it’s about redefining it.
